About us

Based at Toolooa State High School in Gladstone, the Regional Music Coordinator supports administrators, Instrumental Music (IM) teachers and instructors to deliver quality band and string programs to the students of the Central Queensland region.

As Central Queensland is a geographically large region with a decentralised population, a network of local area coordinators gives support and assistance to local areas to enable students' access to specialised workshops, music camps, Eisteddfods, music festivals, extension activities and quality music events such as Fanfare, the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP), Creative Generation and MOST—Musically Outstanding STudent programs.

Instrumental Music in the Central Queensland region is administered by the Instrumental Music Regional Reference Group which consists of a representative Lead Principal from each of the 7 geographical districts within the region, along with support from regional HR and regional office personnel.

Music teachers and staff are also supported through professional development opportunities covering curriculum planning and implementation, Instrumental Music teaching pedagogy, and assessment and moderation guidance.

Local area Instrumental Music libraries exist in Mackay, Rockhampton and Gladstone to provide additional resources for their districts’ teachers.
