Sessions

Each conference offers over 100 multiple choice sessions for delegates across 4 days, with up to 7 sessions running concurrently throughout the conference. Sessions are grouped into strands to suit different types of music educators, including Primary Classroom music, Secondary Classroom music and Instrumental music (Band and Strings/Orchestra). Delegates are not required to nominate a strand but are allowed to choose any of the topics on offer throughout the conference. If you have not attended the Maryborough Music Conference before, take a moment to look at our past programs:

Performance ensembles

The Maryborough Music Conference is unique in that it offers delegates the opportunity to nominate for one of four delegate performance ensembles, including Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra (or String Orchestra), Big Band and Choir. The Performance groups are directed by renowned conductors and composers and perform a public concert as part of the conference.

Pedagogy ensembles

From 2023, the conference will also offer delegates the opportunity to nominate to participate in a pedagogy ensemble. These ensembles are designed to be immersive and flexible as a hands-on development tool for participants and observers. The Pedagogy ensembles will include a Concert Band, String Orchestra, Big Band and Choir. These ensembles will allow participants and observers opportunities to undertake sessions such as conducting and rehearsal masterclasses, ensemble development clinics and other sessions which allow for hands on development.

Trade exhibition

In addition to the large variety of sessions and ensemble experiences on offer at the conference, the Trade Exhibition offers the latest in sheet and digital music, resources, instruments, technology and services. Trade Exhibitors at the conference include prizes and special offers for conference delegates.

Networking

With so much on offer, it is easy to overlook one of the most valued aspects of the conference, which is of course the opportunity to network with colleagues. Many music educators feel isolated in their day-to-day work and the conference provides a unique opportunity to come together, share experiences and stories, learn with and from each other and celebrate music education.

Registering as a delegate

Delegate registrations open by Term 4 of the year prior to the conference. When registrations open, links will be placed on this website, the conference Facebook page and sent to those who have registered for email updates. Nominations for performance and pedagogy ensembles will close at the end of February the year of the conference. Delegates nominating for performance and pedagogy ensembles will be sent notification of placement in an ensemble by the end of March. Delegates registering for ensembles after this time will be placed on a wait list and notified if places become available.

Applying to present

The Maryborough Music Conference brings together a diverse range of presenters covering an array of music education topics. Presenters include nationally and internationally renowned music educators, musicians, conductors and composers; many of whom are supported through our generous sponsors and partners.

Conference organisers recognise the depth of knowledge and experience among educators and welcome applications to present at the Maryborough Music Conference. Many sessions at each conference are designed and presented by local music educators and other professionals who lead the way in innovation, knowledge and skills in Australian music education.

Applications to present can include up to 5 presenters and 3 sessions in each application, provided sponsor details remain the same (if applicable). Applications to present are to be submitted by 31 August the year prior to the conference and applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by 30 September the year prior to the conference.
